Tin Oxide

Regular price $ 500.00

Tin oxide has long been used to opacify glazes (make transparents opaque) at all temperatures. Hand decorated tin glazed earthenware of the 1700/1800s is the most famous use of tin in glazes (delftware-England, faience-France, maiolica-Italy). Tin oxide is more expensive than zirconium opacifiers but it does generally yield a richer more creamy opaque white. The normal use of tin oxide in a glaze is between 5% and10%. A dull matte glaze can result when used in excess. Larger amounts are available, please call store for quotes.
