Alberta Slip is an excellent substitute for the very popular Albany Slip, which has not been mined for over a decade. Like classic Albany Slip, it melts fairly well from cone 6 up. By cone 10 it produces a glossy brown in oxidation and a tenmoku in reduction.
This material is not a slip casting body. It serves as a substitute for the traditionally popular iron and manganese sources, featuring a high clay content. It is often used in older cone 10 tenmoku glaze recipes. Please note, this is not a casting slip and cannot be used as a casting body.
