Learn the art of colored porcelain in handbuilding and throwing with Chris Alveshere.

In this exciting hands-on workshop you'll learn the techniques to build these whimsical, functional art pieces from an expert in the craft! We will cover the steps to color your own clay, along with throwing and handbuilding techniques including swelled forms, clay inlay, and throwing in sections, as well as working with firm slabs to create clean color separations and seams! We will discuss color as content, and methods to create forms in a "utilitarian sculpture" vocabulary.

Chris Alveshere is currently Art Instructor at Workroom Montana and Pottery Instructor at The Lifelong Learning Center, Missoula, MT.  He completed his BFA in Art Education & Bachelor of Arts in Ceramics at Minnesota State University Moorhead, and received his MFA in Ceramics at New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC) at Alfred University, Alfred, NY.

"I visualize pots in everyday objects and places, seeing the potential of form and color in everything from vintage wooden toys, a pile of Skittles, or wandering thrift stores. This inspiration has steered me into making pots other than traditional dinnerware. I am making work for the countertop, and pots that allow for a vast range of function. I enjoy creating non-traditional forms for daily tasks. Who doesn’t want to serve a baguette on a porcelain xylophone? Foremost is an intention to make pieces that exude a sense of whimsy, humor, and joy. Audacious, lively, and cheeky, pieces with attitude and intention."

Snacks and drinks are included. Don’t miss this fun and informative hands-on workshop.
