A popular buff firing plastic Missouri fireclay of fine particle size. It fires a light color with approximately 10% shrinkage at cone 10. This fireclay like all fireclays is a refractory and it has good plasticity.
Very similar to AP Green fireclay in its properties but at a lower cost. Fireclay deposits were formed over 200 million years ago and most are found under coal seams. Due to the nature of their formation they all
contain high amounts of volatiles (materials that burn out during firing) and slow firing is recommended if large amounts are used in clay bodies. Some grogs are made of fired and crushed fireclays.
