This workshop will be an overview of some basic techniques of sculpting a full human figure with clothing. We will go over steps like taking reference photos, setting up a work board, building a loose armature, sketching out the form, details in fabric, face and hair, and end with some tips on hollowing, firing and finishing. It’s a lot to cover in a short time!
Christina Orthwein is a ceramic artist who works out of a home studio in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. After decades creating slab-built and wheel-thrown functional ware, ceramic jewelry and low relief tile, the pandemic brought about a shift in Christina’s work to focus on figural sculpture. With a BFA in ceramics from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, Christina has been a Lecturer of Studio Art at Bryn Athyn College for 23 years.
Snacks and drinks are included. Don’t miss this fun and informative hands-on workshop.
