Learn to make a traditional Tree of Life in a two part hands-on workshop for the advancing ceramicist.  Internationally renowned folk artist will offer instruction in construction of a traditional Arbol del la Vida sculpture.  The first two days will focus on building, we’ll break for a week for the pieces to dry and be fired.  Then we’ll re-convene to decorate with acrylic cold finishes, and learn about the centuries-old method of decoration with egg tempera and natural pigments.

Verónica Castillo is a ceramic artist who crafts exquisitely detailed, brightly colored folk art objects using centuries-old methods and symbols. She is a member of the honored Castillo Orta folk art family of Izucar de Matamoros in Puebla, Mexico, renowned for its tree of life candelabras.  One of the foremost tree of life artists in the United States and Mexico, she recently completed a commissioned Tree of Life for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino.

Snacks and drinks are included. This is a hands-on handbuilding workshop.  There will be a small charge for clay.  Acrylic cold finish and firing are included.  This should be a fun and informative workshop.  Don't miss this rare and special multicultural opportunity to learn with a world renowned artist.

Veronica will instruct in her native Spanish, and we'll provide two translators, Jesus Fernandez and Gloria Cruz to convey all the information in English.
