Explore techniques in Raku Firing this fall in a fun 8 week class for students with some wheel experience. Adult students will learn in a supportive small class setting with instruction from our teaching artist, Jesus Fernandez. Use the potter's wheel to create beautiful, useful art and learn to decorate, glaze and fire your work. You’ll create one or more finished, glazed pieces.
Jesus Fernandez, a local artist from San Antonio, did not have the typical beginnings for a career in ceramics. he began his love for pottery in high school but had fallen out of touch due to pursuing life goals. However, during the peak of the Covid lockdown in 2020, Jesus was presented with a wheel, tools, and some clay to reignite his passions. From there, Jesus has grown in his skills from teaching himself and from receiving guidance from mentor Randy Brodnax. Jesus' objective is to focus on teaching and strengthening basic skills for beginner potters such that they enjoy the overall adventure that is pottery.
All materials and tools will be available for purchase on your first day of class. Firing service is included. We’re excited to offer this challenging and enriching class experience.
